The NNIA is a multidisciplinary, educational organisation dedicated to the science of nutrition for people of all ages. The institute provides information, guidance and support to use the latest scientific discoveries and their application to achieving optimal nutrition
Our Credo
This educational organisation is founded on the credo that good nutrition begins before birth and is nurtured by the knowledge and pure joy of eating good food. The NNIA seeks to support health care providers and scientists
as they serve those who wish to make sound nutrition choices.
Our Vision
It is the vision of the NNIA to provide continuous access to the latest nutrition information to health care providers to empower them with knowledge, access and motivation necessary to promote good nutrition and healthy lifestyles, throughout the lifecycle of the populations they are serving.
The website is intended for health care professionals and scientists. It provides health care providers in Africa with access to the most current nutrition information and tools they can utilise to make good nutrition a motivating goal for those they serve.

As part of the Nestlé commitment to the advancement of nutrition and health care, the NNIA aims to provide support in the following areas:

Affiliation with NNI
The NNIA forms part of a global structure of the Nestlé Nutrition Institute. There are currently more than 13 established chapters of the NNI, with the NNIA being the second oldest next to the USA.

ABOUT UGAN:
Uganda Action for Nutrition (UGAN) was initiated in October 1999 by professionals interested in nutrition from various public and private sectors. These included representative NGOs, policy makers, farmers, small scale and medium scale producers, researchers in health, agriculture, food and nutrition, marketing and economic experts.
Mandate of UGAN
To advance and lobby for better nutrition for sustainable national development through capacity building, technical support, networking, information dissemination and operations research.
UGAN in partnership with NNIA
UGAN has successfully collaborated with Nestle Nutrition Institute Africa (NNIA) and Nestle Foundation.
UGAN, in collaboration with NNIA, successfully held a one-day scientific meeting on 16th August 2005 at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala. The theme was “Nutrition in the face of HIV/AIDS” and sought to fulfil one of UGAN Objectives.
NNIA sponsored one UGAN member to South Africa for a Continuous Nutrition Education meeting which was held from 17th to 19th May 2005 in Pretoria. The theme was early nutrition and its consequences on later life. This representative also attended a one day meeting on nutrition in emergencies.
Nestle Foundation sponsored five UGAN Masters Nutrition students at Makerere University. The students have successfully completed their studies.
ABOUT CENER
Centre for Nutrition Education and Research (CENER) aims:
- To promote, conduct and coordinate nutrition research and surveys in Kenya and provide continuing education in the field of nutrition to health professionals and others.
- To participate in the network of professionals with expertise in nutrition and related areas, and to cooperate with appropriate local, provincial, national and international bodies in the dissemination of nutrition research findings and reliable nutrition information.
- To act as a resource centre on nutrition matters to the public, students, researchers and the media as well as collaborate with international Nutrition bodies to certify and register dieticians/nutritionists to improve international exchange.
OUTREACH
To raise public awareness of the importance of good nutrition, with a mandate to educate the public in nutrition matters, in part by promoting liaison between the Nutrition Centre and other community health clinics.
Special programmes such as Continuing Education courses in nutrition are part of this outreach programme.
